Walking and Talking

There is something so spiritual about walking and talking; walking through God’s creation, quiet and beautiful while talking with a close friend about anything and everything. I’ve recently felt the urge to be in God’s creation more. God created this big beautiful world and here we are spending a majority of our days inside walls looking at electronics. Summer is here which is arguably the best time to get out and explore. I’ve been able to get out a few times this summer, walk some trails and bask in God’s artistic design. Just yesterday I was able to go to a state park with a friend. I had been looking forward to this for a long time and it did NOT disappoint. We drove 30 minutes to this state park chatting and enjoying the views as we traveled. When we got there I couldn’t soak it in fast enough. Having zero distractions, like having no cell service, was a welcomed bonus. It’s so unexplainable when you can just feel God surrounding you with His love. Love shown when you have such a great friend that you trust with all your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. Talking about your fears and uncertainties with these types of friends brings a whole different kind of peace.

Walking and talking is what God created as our past times way back at creation, okay and maybe some other things! God’s creation is so beautiful I never get over how mesmerizing it is. It’s ridiculous! As we were walking through the trails I would just say, “Wow this is so pretty!” I think I said that a million times yesterday. I can relate this experience to Proverbs 12:26 “The righteous person is a guide to his friend, but the path of the wicked leads them astray.” Having friends that have the same beliefs and like doing the same things as you is so important. Life can get you down, especially when you don’t have others to encourage you to keep following God. It’s easy to just go down a random trail when you are exploring a state park, but it’s also very easy to go down a random trail in your spiritual life. But if you have friends to help guide; you can find your way back to the correct trail. One of my favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” This is SUCH an important lesson for Christians. Many people use this for any and every friend they have, but I don’t think that is right. I think in this world so many people have friends, but they don’t have spiritual friends. This verse is meant for Christian friends who sharpen each other and encourage them to go to church, study their Bible, and pray. I’m blessed that I have friends like this in my life. And I hope that I am an encouraging friend as well.

Some of the best times of my life have been in God’s natural creation, without worldly distractions. My most personal moments with friends and my biggest faith revelations have all had God’s artwork surrounding me. Nature is just one of the many ways God shows his love for us. How blessed I am to be able to enjoy God and his gifts to me, such as my friends, in this beautiful world he created.

Psalm 33:5

He loves righteousness and justice, the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.
