Joy! That’s what most people feel at weddings; happy for two people that are important to you and excited to see where God takes them in life together. I’ve always dreamed of my wedding and I guess I still am! I’ve always found it fascinating how two people who get a long so well just meet, fall in love, and get married. Like “What?” How is it that they just happened to meet at a wedding? What if one of them hadn’t been there? Would they have met a different way? I don’t know the answers to those questions and the answers are kind of pointless because here we are getting ready for my sisters wedding. I’m so excited for her and the new adventure she is about to take part in.

God is so smart. He knew from the beginning how weak we are, He knew how much we need help, and He knew how much we needed a companion. So he created marriage, so that we can have happiness, help, and encouragement. Husband and wife help each other know Christ better and are able to glorify him with their marriage. I’m so excited for my sister. She will now have a husband for life that will help and encourage her. But not only is she getting a husband, she’s getting a whole new family. And not only is he getting a wife, he’s getting a whole new family (And if I may say so myself, he’s getting a pretty awesome one). That’s the beauty of marriage with it comes so many news; new experiences, new holiday traditions, new life. Not only are my sister and future brother-in-law getting new family, but so am I! We get to welcome my brother-in-law into our family; show him how we act, live, love.

God compares marriage to our relationship with Christ. Husbands and wives are to love each other, protect each other, and honor each other, because Christ does that for us. When you enter into marriage you have a new life just as when you know Christ you have a new life; not only in the ways you act, but in our assurances of a new life in heaven. I’m so glad I’m gaining a brother. I’m so glad that my sister and her husband will be creating their new life together. But I’m most thankful that Christ died on the cross for me, for my sister and new brother, and for everyone else so that we will have a new life in heaven.

Ephesians 5:1-2

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
