National Native American Heritage Month, National Diabetes Awareness Month, and National Adoption Awareness Month all have one thing in common… me! While I was born into the first, forced into the second, and actively plan to join the third; they each hold a special place in my life and God has used them in my life to reveal His plans.
National Native American Heritage Month
I’m proud of my Indian heritage. I’ve participated in powwows since I was born and it’s awesome to be able to educate people about the history and traditions. It’s also a wonderful way to witness for Christ. A lot of people that I have met think that since I’m native I worship trees, dirt, water, and wind; its such an awesome experience to say no I believe in the God of the universe, who made everything by speaking, and who gave His Son for your and my eternal salvation.
Mark 16:15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
National Diabetes Awareness Month
June 1, 2015 really made this one important to me, not that it wasn’t before that because for my entire life diabetes has been a part of my life through my older sister. It is amazing the ways God works in ones life. I could have lived a perfectly wonderful life without the interruption of diabetes. I could have followed with my original career path but God had a different plan. He knew what I needed, He knew I would have hard times, but he also knew that diabetes would give me a different perspective on life and for all the struggles that come physically, emotionally, and spiritually with an unwanted disease.
Psalm 34:17
The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
National Adoption Awareness Month
No, I was not adopted. But I hope to adopt in the future. I was talking to someone the other day about why I originally wanted to adopt children, and was taken aback at how my desire to adopt has become so much deeper since then. Adoption is such a wonderful reminder of our adoption into Christ’s family. How even though we don’t deserve it, earn it, or always want it it’s one of the best things that could have happened to us. It is helping others in need by showing love to them and giving them hope for a future they may not have had without adoption. It’s about loving others just as Christ loved you.
Galatians 4:4-5
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
Now stay with me, there is a lesson here. God uses everything to teach us and to prepare us. He uses excitement, fear, anger, and even the mundane things in life. From each experience in life you can learn something, but you have to be open to talking to God and listening to him. Whether its your heritage, a disease, or a choice God is showing you His love and preparing you for the future.
Isaiah 48:17
This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.
