When I was younger I thought that you could only serve God by working for a Christian organization, be it, a church or Christian school or a Christian organization. It was some time in my high school years that I was taught that there are plenty of ways you can serve God in your everyday life. Now of course church workers, school teachers, and Christian organizations all serve God but what I’m trying to say here is that you can serve God everyday no matter what you do for a career; because serving God is much more than a 9-5 job.

As Christians we are always representing God. When others know we serve God, every move we make reflects Christ. So when we work out hardest, we are working for the Lord and when we are a lazy worker we are being lazy in front of Christ our King. We are God’s reflection.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

There are many ways you can serve God; helping, loving, forgiving. God gave each of us different characteristics and abilities and we use these to serve God everyday. Whether that be programming computers, stocking shelves, or driving buses. God uses everything we do to benefit His children. You may think that you don’t have any useful gifts but that’s not true. Many times we think of God’s gifts being beautiful voices, being able to play an instrument, or play a sport. But God gives a variety of gifts to us. Some people are amazing at teaching, others know how to fix cars, some can read, some can speak to large groups of people. God is using you in your job, in your friend groups, in your career to show his light to others.

1 Peter 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

So as you go about your day to day life remember that Christ has shown you immense love that you do not deserve.

You’re job on this earth is to spread God’s love in all that you do. You can show God’s love by just being yourself, doing your job, and by giving God glory. And maybe the Holy Spirit will use your abilities, your job, your life to change someone else’s.

1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.
