Listen

I believe that God speaks to us; not always in words but He lets us know what He’s thinking. For me a lot of times it comes by God showing me a passage, a song, a feeling, or an action. Maybe its different for other people, I don’t know. But one thing that is the same about when God speaks to me is this… I am listening for it. When I hear Him clearly, I have decided to wait for the Lord, to be precautious, to be patient, and to be ready. I ask God a lot of things, but rarely am I ready to listen to what He is saying to me. And I get frustrated because He isn’t making it clear to me. But that’s because I keep talking and asking, I keep distracting myself with worldly pleasures, I keep filling my head with anger and fear and sadness. In order to hear God’s will for our lives we have to listen to Him.

James 1:19-21

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are times when God isn’t speaking to you. No matter how much you listen and focus you won’t hear an answer, because God doesn’t do everything in our timing. He knows what’s best and He has the schedule not us. But His silence is another way for Him to speak to you. Perhaps He’s saying be patient, or not right now, or continue to focus on me and I will make my plans known. God does communicate with us even when He is silent, when we wait in hope and trust.

Micah 7:7

But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.

In this world we want everything to be instantaneous, and for the most part we have that. We have technology that is simply ridiculous. It causes us to be impatient and to distract ourselves from reality until what we want is here. I’ve hear people complain about how overnight shipping takes too long! But waiting is part of learning. We can’t have everything when we want it because we aren’t God we don’t have the power of time. And what do we do when we don’t get what we want? We rebel, we turn away, we try to make a point. But that’s exactly what God is telling us not to do! He is saying hear me and listen! And don’t keep this information to yourself but tell others, about my good news!

Proverbs 4:20-22

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.

Listen to what God is doing in your life. What His plans are because God uses everything for His glory. And He wants to use you! But if you are getting impatient, walking away, and not listening what will that help? God wants you to use your wisdom and knowledge to share His grace with others. So that not only you get

to heaven but so do others.
